Does the title of this book make you a little uncomfortable? Try carrying it around in public with its bright red, eye-catching color and see if you aren't slightly embarrased. However, don't let the title nor its color inhibit you from reading this book. Our Favorite Sins: The Sins We Commit & How You Can Quit by Todd Hunter, is an excellent book.
In all honesty, I probably wouldn't have read this book if I wasn't already listening to Todd Hunter. The thoughts I had about the book, based on the title alone, were condemnation, guilt, a list of ways to "try harder" and more. However, none of the ideas above were included and actually it does provide the clearest, condemnation-free way of overcoming sin that I've ever read.
I slowly soaked my way through the book because it was good, thought-provoking and life-applicable. I especially enjoyed the insights shared on his phrase, "disordered desire." He listed the most common ways people "overcome temptation" based on a Barna Group study and then he took the reader back to Scripture and went beyond the act itself to dealing with the root cause of it all.
One of the reasons I love Todd and his messages, is that he gives hope that there is a better way for us to walk in and that we don't have to live as victims to our sin and temptation. While we may struggle and have failed in the past, it is not because God's way doesn't work. Often times, we either don't understand God's way or we've never put it into practice. This book does an excellent job explaining the life-changing freedom that exists for anyone who wants to do it God's way.
While I don't have any "favorite sins," I have some annoying ones that tend to hang around all to often. I have enjoyed and continue to look forward to putting the thoughts and ideas Todd shares into practice in my own life. So if you too have some sins (favorite or not) that just won't seem to budge, this book may give you some new perspective on it all.

This book sounds interesting, especially as I've been learning that repentance is a gift. I would like to read it at some point but right now I've got a pile of books in my room that I am waiting to dive into.
